[CIBRARIO, Luigi]. Giostra corsa in Torino addi 21 di febbraio 1839 nel passaggio di Sua Altezza Imperiale e Reale Alessandro gran-duca principe imperiale ereditario di Russia.

Turin, tipografia Chirio e Mina., 1839.

Elephantine folio (510×330mm). [1] leaf, 66 pages, [7] hand-colored illustrated plates. Half-title, title-page in red and black within typographical border, text within intricate geometrical border in  blue. Bound in contemporary black morocco, covers panelled in gilt and blind, decorated in gilt with the royal monogram of King Charles Albert of Sardinia on front cover and the arms of the Kingdom of Sardinia on back cover; spine in compartments with decorations and title lettered in gilt. Some foxing and spotting, especially at the first few leaves, binding slightly rubbed at extremities. Provenance: manuscript note "Destinato da S.M. il Re al Signor Carderina" (likely Giacomo Carderina, 1804–79, then a major in the Royal Sardinian Army).

A fine copy with distinguished provenance of this monumental work in contemporary colouring, dedicated to the court festival celebrating Alexander of Russia's visit to Turin. For the occasion, the floor of Turin's Royal Theatre was converted into an arena to host horse rides. These are depicted in the seven plates, all drawn and signed by Francesco Gonin.
