Octavo (148×94mm). 56 leaves. Printer's device on title-page, and a different one on last verso. Several woodcut historiated initials. Bound in seventeenth-century limp vellum, red edges. Partially trimmed contemporary note on A2v. Lacking two pairs of ties, minor stains throughout. A good copy.

Second edition of Lodovico Dolce's vernacular translation of Achilles Tatius's Leucippe and Clitophon. It is one of the few surviving complete examples of ancient Greek novels, alongside the works of Chariton, Longus, Xenophon of Ephesus, and Heliodorus of Emesa. Its first edition was printed in Latin in 1544, just three years before the present edition, while the editio princeps of the original Greek text was not published until 1601.
