Eighteenth-century manuscript note on endleaves. Faint dampstaining at the beginning and end of the volume. Provenance: Michelangelo Fumanelli (eighteenth-century book dealer in Verona; paper label on front endleaf). A good copy.

The rare first edition of the first Italian emblem book. All the numerous subsequent works in the imprese genre descended from Paolo Giovio's Dialogo, first printed in this unillustrated edition three years after the author's death.
