4 parts in 2 volumes, octavo (179 × 114 mm.). 197 [i.e. 198] pages; vi, 246 pages, [1] leaf; vi, 326 pages, [1] leaf; iv, 344 pages, [1] leaf. Engraved title page signed Luigi Ughi in each part. With 25 plates, some of which signed Luigi Ughi. Contemporary stiff vellum binding with two lettering pieces on each spine, marbled edges. A good copy.

First edition. A fundamental source for the city's artistic history, it contains the biographies of about two hundred Ferrarese artists active from the XII to the XVIII century. Cittadella quotes Girolamo Baruffaldi's Vite de' pittori e scultori ferraresi – only published in 1844-46 – as a source for his work; Baruffaldi's manuscript also featured several portraits drawn by Giuseppe Maria Moretti which inspired Luigi Ughi's 25 engravings. Here, the most prestigious artists of Ferrara are portraied, including Cosmè Tura, Ercole Grandi, Dosso Dossi.
